Lesson Title: Careers and Physical Fitness
Lesson #: 10
Grade Level Appropriateness: 9-12

GOALS and OBJECTIVES: The students should develop an awareness of physical fitness levels needed for a variety of careers.

ACTIVITIES PROCEDURES:

  1. The students will list a variety of careers and rank the level of cardiovascular fitness for that career.
  2. The students will attempt to find volunteers to perform a cardiovascular activity and record the needed information.

    Options:

Careers could be school oriented careers - different teachers, administrators, maintenance, counselors, deans, cafeteria workers, etc.

The tests could be for overall fitness or a different specific fitness component.

  3. The students will input the information or perform the fitness test on the TriFIT.
  4. The students can draw comparison graphs of their perceived cardiovascular fitness level for a career and the actual fitness level of people in that career.

RATIONALE: The students will become aware of the level of physical fitness they may need for their future job employment. They will understand the need to continue to have a physically active lifestyle depending on the degree of activity in their career.

REFLECTION: It is a great way to promote awareness in your school of what the physical education program has to offer. Administrators and building administrators would be great people to test and give results.
