Lesson Title: Personal Fitness Plan Goal Setting
Lesson #: 11
Grade Level Appropriateness: 10-12

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Students will develop personal fitness goals based on their current level of fitness.

ACTIVITIES/PROCEDURES: (Students in prior classes will need to complete fitness testing activities.)

  1. Using the TriFIT System students will review their testing results in the areas of cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. (Appropriate tests to be determined by instructor.)
  2. After identification of their current fitness level, students will identify personal goals using information from performance norm tables supplied in class. Changes in performance levels should be appropriate to current levels of fitness.
  3. Students will list the ways in which they will make their personal program/goal appropriate and attainable. Students should use appropriate FIT principles in their rationale for their change or maintenance of their fitness level.

RATIONALE: (NASPE Standards) this lesson addresses the standard to develop and independently conduct a personal physical activity program meeting their needs.

REFLECTION: This lesson is to help students in their understanding of planning and creating a personal fitness plan. The student will have complete ownership in the goals of their plan and through post testing should be able to identify reasons why their plan was successful or unsuccessful.
