Lesson Title: Sit and Reach Test

Grade Level: 9-10

GOALS and OBJECTIVES:

  1. To test the level of flexibility across the hip joint and back.
  2. To test one of five components of the Presidential Council on Physical Fitness test battery.
  3. To perform necessary skills needed to obtain highest possible score on sit and reach test.

ACTIVITIES and PROCEDURES:

  1. Class warm-up of exercises including additional stretching exercises for the legs, hip and lower back.
  2. Students will use the TriFIT 600 System to assess their flexibility. Students will get three attempts with the best attempt recorded for the physical fitness testing competition. The third score will be entered in the TriFIT 600 System to be added to each student's individual wellness portfolio.

RATIONALE: Achieves and maintains a health enhancing level of physical fitness.

REFLECTION: Our students will compete in the five event Presidential Physical Fitness Testing Program. Curl-ups, pull-ups, shuttle run, sit and reach and one mile run/walk will be tested during competition. These tests/skills will help improve the areas assessed in the TriFIT 600 assessment system. Students equaling national and presidential standards receive T'Shirts, patches and certificates.
