Lesson Title: Developing a Personal Fitness Program
Lesson #: 14
Grade Level Appropriateness: 9-12

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. The student will review current data on their own personal fitness by using the printout based on the TriFIT assessments.
  2. The student will develop a fitness plan based on a their own data.
  3. The fitness plan will include plans for cardiovascular, flexibility, and strength programs.

ACTIVITIES/PROCEDURES:

  1. Student will be given a personal profile from the TriFIT computer.
  2. Student will make a list of fitness goals in each area, based on their current status, in three areas: strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular.
  3. Student will be asked to select a cardiovascular program that they enjoy doing.
  4. Student will be asked to select a strength program.
  5. Student will select flexibility exercises, which complement both the cardiovascular and strength programs.

RATIONALE: This lesson reflects the third standard from NASPE. The goal of this standard is to exhibit a physically active lifestyle. In this activity, the students will be encouraged to participate outside the classroom setting, and will be allowed input on their selected activities. Independent work will play a major role in this lesson.

REFLECTION: This project will become the basis for lifetime fitness, and a start in developing personal, meaningful goals for a personal fitness program.
