Lesson Title: Physical Management (course for overweight students)
Lesson #: 18
Grade Level Appropriateness: 11-12
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Students will be introduced to 9 strength development exercises that include use of their body weight, free weights and Cybex machines. The goal of the lesson will be for students to complete one set of 12 repetitions of each of the 12 exercises using the proper form and technique demonstrated.
ACTIVITIES/PROCEDURES:
RATIONALE: (NASPE Standards)
REFLECTIONS: Students in the Physical Management Course write a weekly journal. The journal topic assignment based on this lesson plan will be to briefly reflect on the type and amount of weight training they have done in their life. Then the student will be asked to design a four week progressive, circuit training program including sets and reps.
Students will have been tested using the TriFIT 600 (Bicep Test) before the four weeks and at the end of the unit. Students will be informed that strength takes approximately 6-8 weeks to begin to see noticeable difference, so test results may not change at that point.
Hopefully, students will depart from this lesson with a basic understanding of some weight training exercises to improve upper body strength using machines, free weights and their own bodies. Additionally, they should be able to design a basic program.
