Lesson Title: Heart Rate Basics

GOALS and OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be introducd to basic heart, lung and circulatory systems.
  2. Students will be able to measure heart rates manually and with HRM.
  3. Students will be introduced to F.I.T. principle

ACTIVITIES and PROCEDURES:

  1. Basic drawings of heart, lungs and circulatory system will be presented.
  2. Vocabulary and terminology will be presented.
  3. Students will be shown various self tests for heart rate monitoring
  4. An outline will be used to guide students through F.I.T. concept

RATIONALE: Standards #4 -- Students will achieve and maintain a health enhancing level of physical fitness

REFLECTION: This lesson will give students a basic knowledge of cardio-respiratory system and how exercise can affect it. With a basic knowledge of this system, students will be able to develop a simple fitness program.
