LESSON TITLE: Are You Buff?
Lesson #26
Grade Level Appropriateness: 9
Goals and Objectives:
- To learn about strength:
- What is strength?
- What are the benefits of being strong?
- How can you determine if you are strong?
- Self directed student activity and knowledge acquisition
- Student assessment of strength
Activities/Procedures:
- Class is divided into exercise groups. Each group determines who will hold
the following positions: recorder, reader, and administrator of tests. (More
than one student holds the position of reader and administrator. Number depends
upon tests and information.)
- Task cards: Definition of strength. Benefits of strength. How to attain
strength. How to maintain strength. Ways to assess strength - each assessment
method will have directions as to how to assess, and which muscle groups are
being assess.
- Circuit training system: Stations include regular circuits, and test stations.
Students Complete circuit and test when at the appropriate test station. Recorder
takes down results which will be entered into the TriFIT systems later or
possible during the period.

Pull Ups Hand Grip Strength
Rationale:
- Students will learn to assess strength.
- Students will take leadership roles in the organization and operation of
their group.
- Students will accept responsibility for recording scores on the TriFIT
machines.
Reflection: A quiz can be given to the students covering the material
learned on the task cards.
