Lesson Title: Personal Fitness Goal Setting
Lesson #: 02
Grade Level: 9th - 12th
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Students will develop and implement a personal
wellness program to facilitate achievement and maintenance of a health-enhancing
level of physical fitness. Students will use technology resources for solving
problems and making informed decisions.
ACTIVITIES/PROCEDURES: All related documentation must be maintained
and submitted in a 1 ˝ inch 3-ring binder.
- Construct a personal health and fitness profile by completing the following
TriFIT assessments: 3 youth HRA's (health risk appraisals), PAR-Q, 3 biometrics,
youth strength and flexibility assessments, and 1 cardiovascular assessment.
- Use the health and fitness profile to identify all areas in need of improvement,
and, areas to maintain.
- Using the guidelines for goal setting (realistic, specific, measurable),
determine:
- 2 long term goals (10-15 weeks)
- overall objective (Why is this goal important to you?)
- 3 short term goals, used as stepping stones to the long term goals (2-3
weeks)
- Develop personal fitness program indicating the following:
- action plan (implementation steps)
- plan to monitor progress (log, journal, etc.)
- evaluation procedure for goal achievement
- motivation partner
- personal reward
- Complete 1-2 page reflection indicating:
- I was surprised to learn…
- I was successful in…
- I was frustrated with…
- I will continue…
- I will change…
- New goal…
RATIONALE: (NASPE Standards)
Students will:
1. Exhibit a physically active lifestyle.
- Develop and conduct independently a personal physical activity program meeting
their needs.
- Have the skills, knowledge, interest, and desire to independently maintain
an active lifestyle throughout their life.
- Understand how activity participation patterns are likely to change throughout
life and have some strategies to deal with those changes
2. Achieve and maintain a heath-enhancing level of physical fitness.
- Use principles of training for the purpose of modifying levels of fitness
- Assess personal health-related fitness status.
- Begin to design personal health-related fitness programs based on an accurately
assessed fitness profile.
- Demonstrate skill, knowledge and desire to monitor and adjust activity levels
to meet personal fitness needs
