Lesson Title: Fitness Data Analysis for Anatomy/Physiology
Lesson #30
Grade Level Appropriateness: Grades 11-12

Goals and Objectives:

  1. To have students become familiar with the TriFIT system and its applications.
  2. To have students learn to enter data, analyze data, and respond to this data from fictional students.
  3. To have students use the TriFIT Wellness Center to plan exercise programs and nutritional meal plans for these fictional students.

Activities/Procedures:

  1. Obtain old student data from the P.E. Dept. or produce fictional data for a set of students.
  2. Break students up into groups of 2-3, and assign them a fictional student. Groups may be assigned more than one student depending upon time constraints.
  3. Have students enter the fictional data into the TriFIT system, and use the system to help analyze the data.
  4. Using the Wellness Center as a resourse, have the groups design an exercise program depending upon the student's areas of concern.
  5. Using the Wellness Center, along with other resources, have the groups design nutritional meal plans for the students. Groups may suggest areas of dietary improvement, and highlight areas of concern.
  6. Depending upon time constraints, have the students do their own TriFIT work up, including exercise program and meal plans.

Rationale: According to the EHS Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs) this lesson plan will aid students in the following ways:

  1. they will become proficient users of technology
  2. they will be healthy individuals, concerned with life-long health issues.

Reflection: Fitness reports can be evaluated on an individual basis for effectiveness as well as practicality for the individual subject. Students can analyze their personal exercise and meal plans by keeping a daily log of their activities and by evaluating their ability to follow their program.
