LESSON TITLE: Value of Warm-up and Flexibility
Lesson #31
Grade Level Appropriateness: Nine - Twelve
Goals and Objective: The goal of the lesson is to understand the importance of warming up the muscles before engaging in flexibility exercises or activities that require flexibility. Objectives :
Activities and Procedures:
This activity is done during the flexibility portion of the freshman Physical Fitness Unit or during the 10-12 conditioning class.
Six to eight students perform the pre-test of flexibility using the TriFIT 600.The students are instructed to take one attempt and to "go easy", only stretching to the point of discomfort. The scores are recorded and saved. The students then participate in vigorous warm-up session, which includes cardio-vascular and muscular strength types of activities.
The students then return to the TriFIT 600 and repeat the flexibility protocol; again taking one try and stretching to the point of discomfort. The students obtain a print out of their results and pick up a homework worksheet.
Rationale:
Reflection: The worksheet asks the students to record the first and second trial and to analyze the two scores in terms of comparing the results and answering why one trial was better than the other.
