LESSON TITLE: Wellness Center Lesson Plan
Lesson #35
Grade Level Appropriateness: 9-12

    1. Wellness Center Lesson Plan

As all teachers know, students retain more information when the subject at hand relates directly to them. This is the basis of the Wellness Center. The student completes his/her own Health Risk Appraisal (HRA) then a personalized report is created. Worksheets are then completed for each HRA topic, which involves researching in the Wellness Library ways to reduce their health risk. All major topics are covered in the Wellness Center and the information is updated in the Wellness Library.

These activities may be used as a singular lesson plan or be used throughout the entire semester or year.

Goal

The goal of these activities are to develop awareness of their current health risk, find ways to reduce health risk and become more familiar with technology.

Activity

      1. Go to a computer lab where the Wellness Center is installed on all the computers.
      2. Each student will log in and complete the HRA assigned for the day.
      3. Once all questions are answered, a report will come up. The students are to read the report, then answer all the questions on the worksheet (Appendix F has an example of one worksheet) for the corresponding HRA chosen for the day.
      4. To answer the questions, the student is to click on all the links within the report and/or open the Wellness Library and complete the worksheets.

At the end of the semester, a test is provided which has questions from all ten HRA topics.
