Lesson Title: Biceps Strength Test

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: To test the biceps strength of each member of the class. To develop an awareness of the importance of body strength and its importance related to stability. Students should support each other while working together.

ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES: The class will be participating in a weight workout/cardiovascular workout/and testing on the TriFIT. Class will be divided into three groups. Within these groups the students should be paired up in partners so they can spot for each other. Each group will be numbered 1-3. After a 5 minute jogging warm-up and a 5 minute stretch, group 1 will begin in the weight room working on the following upper body workout that will not affect their biceps strength test.

Bench press: 3x10 rm

Incline press: 3x10 rm

Military press: 3x10 rm

Triceps ext.: 3x10 rm

Group 2 will begin on the track to run intervals. They will begin with a 1-min. jog then a 1-min. walk. Then jog for 2 min. and walk for 1. Then jog for 3 min. and walk for 3. They will continue this pattern through 5 minutes then reverse the pattern 5 and 5, 4 and 4, 3 and 3, and so forth.

Group 3 will begin with the TriFIT system. Students will test on the biceps strength only. Since the weight has already been input, this will not be a problem. Students need to have their ID number ready for the instructor to look up their file.

The P.E. leaders will assist the teacher in any way necessary. Group 3 is the constant. In other words, as soon as Group 3 is done, every group will rotate to the next station regardless of where they are in their workout. This will keep things moving smoothly.

RATIONALE: (NASPE STANDARDS): This lesson meets many of the standards such as: Standard # 4 Achieves and maintains a healthy-enhancing level of physical fitness. Standard # 2 Applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills. Technology standard #5 Technology research tools.

REFLECTION: This lesson was designed to focus on fitness assessment while incorporating a rounded fitness workout for both aerobic and anaerobic. The timeframe will vary according to the duration of your class period.
